MotoGP Portugal: Marquez, the accident and Rossi’s ‘prophecy’ – Video

Marc Marquez returns, causes an accident and ‘knocks down’ Miguel Oliveira. The Spanish Honda rider becomes the protagonist, in the worst possible way, in the Portuguese GP, the opening round of the 2023 MotoGp World Championship. On the third lap, the Spaniard hits Oliveira’s bike in full force: both crashed at turn 3, race over and many greetings. Oliveira takes a big risk but if he gets away with a contusion to his leg, he will be able to get back on the saddle immediately. Marquez returns to the pits with a dent in his right arm, to be evaluated.

The episode, of course, is controversial. “It wasn’t my intention: I chose the hard tire for the front and the wheel locked up: I wanted to go left, I couldn’t lift the bike, I avoided Martin but not Oliveira. I apologize to Miguel and his team, the important thing is that he’s okay,” Marquez told Sky. Apology partially accepted. “I have a little pain in my right leg, but nothing is broken, which is quite good news considering the blow I took,” says Oliveira. “I only realized the dynamics of the accident now, after watching the replay. It was strange, Marquez started from too far away, he was beyond the limit, there’s nothing else to say: he avoided Martin, but in this way he centered on me. Technical problem with the bike? I don’t think so, because when a rider has a brake problem, he brakes first,” says the Portuguese.

Marquez, in the debate that is unleashed on social media in real time, ends up in the dock for his very aggressive riding style. The words that Valentino Rossi uttered in 2018 about Marquez after the accident in the Argentine GP are back in the news. “Someone has to do something, otherwise we get hurt. Marquez doesn’t have any kind of respect for his opponents: he points his leg full at you, he knows that if he catches you between his leg and the bike he won’t fall.
