Pol Espargaro was one of the most consistent riders in terms of pace all day on Saturday and the fastest on Sunday. This is further proof of the great work done by the Japanese manufacturer this winter, in which he revolutionized the RC213V. The younger of the Espargaro brothers says he feels more than satisfied after last year’s complaints, in which the lack of grip at the rear prevented him from expressing his driving style at its best.
As if that weren’t enough, the new height adjustment device, both front and rear, have transformed the bike into a kind of “dragster” that at the moment of departure has a quick start as a shot. Therefore, the cheerfulness shown contrasts a lot with the feeling of precariousness of a year ago.
“I’m really happy. My pace on Saturday was one of the best, if not the best. This morning I was able to do a fast lap, which is very important if we consider the Ducatis, and I’m very satisfied. We also managed to leave Indonesia without incident. These tests give me a lot of confidence in view of Qatar ”, summed up Espargaro, who looks back and feels a great relief.
“The situation has changed a lot compared to a year ago. Now I can use my rear-based style. the bike is faster on the flying lap and more consistent in pace, ”added the Spaniard, who hopes to receive an update in terms of power ahead of the first race in Qatar, in exactly three weeks.
The Catalan is incredulous at the step forward that the bike has made in the cue from a standstill: “The new devices increase the level of drag and this affects us a bit in terms of top speed. The top eight bikes in this parameter are the Ducatis. Honda knows this, and we will probably have an update on power in Qatar ”.
“In MotoGP, the start becomes more and more important, because you have to be in the right place and also very fast. The bike has improved a lot in this respect. This is due to the new devices, but also to the increased grip at the rear, he continued Polycciowho somehow saw in Honda the kind of reaction he had been asking for since he arrived, that is, just over a year ago.
“All of us Honda riders are using the same bike, and this was a great decision. We all agree despite the different driving styles. Nobody thinks last year’s bike is better. I think Honda is much more homogeneous than last year and this is the key to the evolution in MotoGP. Ducati has done it in recent years and we have seen the benefits ”.
