The Grand Prix Commission, composed of Carmelo Ezpeleta (Dorna, President), Paul Duparc (FIM), Hervé Poncharal (IRTA), Shinichi Sahara (Suzuki) and Fabiano Sterlacchini (KTM) in the presence of Jorge Viegas (FIM President), Carlos Ezpeleta (Dorna), Mike Trimby (IRTA, Secretary of the meeting) and Corrado Cecchinelli (Director of Technologies), in a meeting held in Misano on Friday 22 October 2021 established the following:
Sporting Regulations – In force from the 2022 season
Warm Up sessions for Moto3 and Moto2
The duration of the Warm Up sessions for these two categories is reduced to ten minutes.
Sporting Regulations – In force from the 2023 season
The minimum age to participate in the Moto3 and Moto2 classes is increased from 16 to 18 years.
The maximum number of participants admitted to the Moto3 class is set at 30 units in addition to two wildcards.
These changes form part of general minimum age changes established and communicated by the Permanent Bureau.
Technical Regulations – Immediately into effect
MotoGP class – Replacement / rebuilt engines
Previously, if a technically investigated engine had been replaced or rebuilt, manufacturers were required to wait for the analysis results (maximum 45 days) before they could use the replacement / rebuilt engine as part of their allocation.
Manufacturers are now allowed to rebuild or replace an engine immediately after analysis without waiting for approval. In any case, if an engine does not respect the rules in force, penalties will be applied to the appointments in which that replacement or rebuilt engine has been used.
In addition, the total mileage between the checked engine and the replacement engine will be a maximum of 2,800 kilometers.
MotoGP class – tanks for the race
For safety reasons during the preparation, teams will now be allowed to prepare three approved tanks for each bike. In order to have enough time to safely prepare three tanks for the race, the time for the official declaration of ambient temperature and the assignment of a technical analyst to the teams has been increased from the current 75 to 90 minutes. The officially supplied and approved containers will remain two and one will be reused to fill the third tank.
Technical regulations – In force from the 2022 season
Cost of the brake package for the MotoGP class
Considering the use of teams in terms of larger brake discs on a greater number of circuits, the maximum cost for a MotoGP brake package has been increased from € 70,000 to € 80,000.
Furthermore, in agreement with Brembo – the exclusive supplier – slight changes were made to the composition of the components supplied. The details will need to be adapted based on subsequent comparisons and based on previous MSMA approval.
Allocation of tires in the MotoGP class
The allocation of tires for the tests has been revised on the basis of an agreement between Michelin, Dorna and IRTA.
For the current events, again in agreement with Michelin, the total allocation of slick tires to the rear will be 12 according to these guidelines:
– up to a maximum of 6 of specification A;
– up to a maximum of 4 of specification B;
– up to a maximum of 3 of specification C
