After a very long summer break – over a month off – MotoGP is ready to make a comeback with a double appointment at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. Today is the eve of the Styrian Grand Prix and the focus is on any official communication from Valentino Rossi about his future, poised between retirement and the continuation of the MotoGP adventure on the official Ducati of the newly owned team VR46.
For the VR46 galaxy, however, another very important announcement is in the air. According to what is reported by today’s edition of The Gazzetta dello Sport, indeed, Franco Morbidelli will soon be made official as Maverick Vinales’ heir within the official Yamaha team. The Moto2 world champion in 2017 would thus find himself again paired with Fabio Quartararo, a rider with whom he has already shared the garage inside the Petronas structure in the two-year period 2019-2020. Morbidelli’s chief engineer, Ramon Forcada, would thus return ‘home’ after the loan to the Sepang Racing Team.
Yamaha had tried to test the waters to blow KTM Miguel Oliveira, but the Portuguese preferred to decline the courtship of Lin Jarvis with the aim of presenting himself at the end of the contract in 2022 with the possibility of probing the entire market at all the companies registered in the premier class of the world championship. Morbidelli saw the doors of the factory team open due to the early termination of the contract that linked Maverick Vinales to Yamaha until 2022. The Spanish rider has not yet unbalanced himself on his future, on the trail of the 1995 class are Aprilia, Suzuki and Ducati .
