The two days of testing at Misano ended in the sign of a record-breaking Fabio Quartararo. After saying he was very satisfied with the updates introduced by Yamaha, in particular with the base of the 2023 engine, the leader of the world classification returned to the track in the afternoon and beat the previous record by 11 thousandths, which was the pole position signed last year by Pecco Bagnaia.
Speak of the devil and the horns are popping up, because his direct rival in the championship standings, the Ducati rider, is behind the transalpine rider. The Piedmontese was just 118 thousandths slower, despite the fact that he finished his work program at the lunch break, not hiding, however, that he had taken a further step forward in terms of mileage and agility with the advanced chassis introduced in Romagna.
Aprilia also continues to find positive responses, especially with a Maverick Vinales that is increasingly becoming the reference point for the Noale manufacturer. The Spaniard finished third at 135, but it must be said that Aleix Espargaro is also not too far behind, as he finished fifth at 281 thousandths. The “captain”, however, spoiled his day with a crash at turn 13 in which he remedied the fracture of a little finger, which in any case should not require surgery.
According to the technical manager Romano Albesiano, Enea Bastianini slipped between the two RS-GPs, which could also take different development directions. The Gresini Racing driver also ended his day at the end of the morning, after taking a further step in set-up compared to the one with which he battled for victory on Sunday, but also starting to work in a 2023 key, trying a new frame that he liked.
There is no shortage of Ducati in the top positions, because continuing to scroll through the rankings, one cannot fail to notice that of Jorge Martin in sixth place and that of Fabio Di Giannantonio in eighth. On the other hand, Jack Miller is missing, also author of a crash at turn 4, the same point where he crashed on Sunday when he was in the lead. Don’t be surprised though, because the Australian had no news to try, as he was leaving in the direction of KTM.
KTM that had good responses on this second day, with Miguel Oliveira who was able to sign the seventh time trial, just over half a second from the top. All while Dani Pedrosa continued the development of the RC16 prototype 2023, which made its debut on the track in these two days.
Franco Morbidelli also continues to make progress, at the end half a second behind his teammate’s record with his ninth time. The Italian rider said he was in turn very impressed by the updates made to his M1, to the point of not hiding a bit of disappointment thinking about the idea of having to return to the saddle of the standard 2022 version next weekend in Aragon.
We now come to the most awaited man of the two days, namely Marc Marquez, because the step forward shown today was undeniable. Between morning and afternoon, the eight-time world champion managed to complete an impressive 61 laps, a sign that his physical conditions are all in all quite good. But he also significantly improved his performance, dropping under 1’32 “and finishing just under six tenths of a second behind the leader. Without forgetting that once again he was the best among the Honda riders.
It should be noted the absence of the Suzuki and Ducati of the Mooney VR46, which having no news to try and decided to close their program yesterday. He also rode the Yamaha RNF with only one bike. After all, after having disputed his last race in MotoGP last Sunday, yesterday morning Andrea Dovizioso had gone out on track only to carry out a test with a new helmet from his technical sponsor Alpinestars.
