The third free practice session of the Grand Prix of Made in Italy and of the Emilia Romagna of MotoGP has outlined a Q1 that looks truly fiery, at least as regards the fight for the title, given that the two contenders have both missed access. headed to Q2 this morning.
Although visually the asphalt of Misano seemed in worse conditions than yesterday afternoon, the times have gone down quite significantly in this FP3 and the feeling is that Pecco Bagnaia has wasted a great opportunity, given that three Ducatis are monopolizing. the first three positions.
The two drivers of Pramac Racing dictated the pace, with Johann Zarco recovering the top he occupied after FP1, lapping in 1’40 “384 and ahead of Jorge Martin’s sister Desmosedici GP by 87 thousandths. Third time then for the Australian Jack Miller, who pays 136 thousandths instead.
The weak link was Bagnaia himself, who practically dropped back to 11th position in the expiration of time and therefore will be forced to move from Q1. And the curious thing is that it was another Ducati who threw him out, that of Luca Marini, who therefore hits his second consecutive direct Q2 for the Sky VR46 Avintia colors.
A real shame for the Piedmontese, because the world leader Fabio Quartararo was in obvious difficulty and could not do better than the 15th time, even if in the end he was just over a tenth slower than Pecco. Among other things, for the Yamaha rider this is the first time this season in which he has not managed to enter Q2 directly.
But for both of them it will not be easy at all to be able to remove the pass for the pole hunt, because in Q1 they will be in excellent company: to name just a few, with them there will be the two Suzukis of Joan Mir, 12th, and Alex Rins, slowed down by a crash at turn 13. But also the two Yamaha Petronas of Andrea Dovizioso and Valentino Rossi, protagonists of an FP3 to forget, ending in 22nd and 23rd position.
Going back to those who have already earned Q2, Miguel Oliveira’s performance was remarkable, fourth with his KTM despite crashing into turn 15. The Portuguese precedes Marc Marquez’s two official Hondas and Pol Espargaro, with the eight-time world champion who finally seems to have decided to make a definitive move to the new RC213V chassis.
Franco Morbidelli deserves a good one, the only one among Yamaha riders capable of getting into the top 10 with his seventh time. Clear sign of the fact that in the wet the operated knee is less of a torment. Space in Q2 also for Aprilia, with Aleix Espargaro hoisted himself up to eighth position precisely after the time was up.
His boxing mate Maverick Vinales, who did not go beyond the 17th time, was more in trouble in the wet. However, it went worse for Lorenzo Savadori, who was really unlucky: on his return as a wild card from his ankle injury in Austria, the driver from Romagna crashed at turn 1 and he is talking about a fractured right collarbone.
Already mentioned of the tenth time of Marini, finally there was a satisfaction also for Danilo Petrucci, who earned the certainty of a place in the first four rows with the ninth time. Not bad for his last race in Italy, as tomorrow will also be his birthday.
It was not a good morning, however, for Ducati test rider Michele Pirro, who crashed at turn 16 and therefore only 13th. Enea Bastianini also badly, who in the wet does not seem to be as effective as he was a month ago in the dry, conquering his first podium in MotoGP: the Avintia Esponsorama rider finished only 18th.
