Bagnaia recovers in the standings
Francesco’s Misano has two faces BagnaiaOn the one hand, the world champion was beaten by a Marc Marquez who he himself defined as “superior and much more courageous”, on the other he recovered 19 points from Jorge Martin thanks to a Christmas present brought forward by three and a half months.
“Pecco” himself expressed these contrasting feelings in the post-race, complimenting Marquez without justifying his placing with the crash at Aragón and underlining Martin’s strategic error after six laps.
Bagnaia’s words
“I was simply slower than Marquez. There are no excuses.I tried at the beginning and surely if the track had remained completely dry the result could have been different because Jorge and I were already leaving. When it started to rain I immediately saw that Franco had fallen. I told myself that maybe we needed to slow down a bit more and Marc was definitely braver and stronger than all of us.. When he passed me I tried to follow him in every way“, this is his comment on Sky Sports MotoGP. “There’s always a bit of a problem with the pressure and temperature of the front tire. At the big bend I was making up a lot of ground and two or three times I had the opportunity to dive in but I was never incisive enough to be close. Especially in the last laps I collapsed a bit because I saw that Enea was about three seconds behind, so my concentration dropped a bit.“.
“The only way to beat Marquez was to be 100% todayand when my concentration dropped I started to feel more and more pain and it was complicated. However today I did my best and I finished second. With Jorge behind, in the economy of the championship it is certainly much better this way, without a doubt. However for my mood, after what happened a week ago, it would have been the best to return to winning, especially here at home, because the potential was there. However, winning is important, but scoring more points is even more so. And when I saw that Jorge was coming back I understood that he would score zero points (actually he got one, ed.). From that moment I knew I couldn’t make any small mistakes.“.
“In two weeks we are back here, I know I will be 100% and I want to try to win 100%. I also know it will not be easy because Marc and Jorge are extremely strong, while Enea will not make the mistake of putting the soft again. So it will be a four-way battle, it will be tough but at least we can try better“.
