Marc Marquez has found his best form since he moved to Gresini’s Ducati this season after 11 years with Honda. In Jerez he fought with Pecco Bagnaia for the victory until the last lap of the race and in Le Mans, a fortnight ago, he was the author of two comebacks that catapulted him from 13th place on the grid to second.
Doing it once is complicated, doing it twice (Saturday and Sunday) shows that the best version of the eight-time world champion is back, to the delight of the fans who will be present en masse in Montmelò this weekend.
Despite taking two wins and six podiums in his nine visits to the circuit since competing in the premier class (2013), the Catalan does not identify the track as one of his favourites. When it comes to the candidate with the best chance of winning, the number 93 is clear.
“If you have a spare change, put it on the Aprilia for this weekend, because it’s usually always strong there. In terms of the circuit, this doesn’t underline my strengths,” he said, referring to Aleix Espargaro’s double last year. year and the victory that eluded the driver from Granollers (Barcelona) in 2022, when he thought the race was over with a lap early while he was in a podium position.
After completing his adaptation to the Ducati and going through a phase of clear ascent, Marquez is third in the World Championship, tied with Enea Bastianini (fourth), and both are 40 points behind leader Jorge Martin. The rider from Cervera is competing with both for second place in the official Ducati garage for the next two years, even if the fight seems to have come down to the two Spaniards.

If we take into account the calendar and what Ducati has declared, it would be logical to think that the mystery will be solved next week, during the Italian Grand Prix. Depending on who is chosen to wear red, the other pieces of the puzzle will fit together, probably in a rather accelerated manner.
“The transition from Honda to Ducati is working well for me; I’m in the mix, dancing with the strongest, up front. Being competitive again, fighting with Martin and Pecco, who are the two fastest riders on a Ducati , it’s already a lot,” said the multiple champion, who didn’t give too many clues about his future beyond the obvious ones.
“I can explain very little. With what I have in hand, I try to give my 100% on the track. The more results you get, the more doors open. Obviously, if you don’t have a contract and there are official teams with vacancies, then there they are conversations with all the manufacturers”, admitted Marquez.
