In 2022 Marc Marquez he will have to learn to erase his history. Of course, the eight world titles will always be his, but the Spaniard – right now – cannot drive as he did before the serious accident in 2020. He is learning, however, and second place in PL2 of the Qatar Grand Prix – his debut of the season – represents a further step of growth. It remains to be seen if Marquez’s inspiration is still limited to the flying lap or if the feedback will also be positive on the race pace, where the right arm will be much more stressed. These are the words of the Cabroncito and teammate in Honda Pol Espargarówho finished in ninth place both in the afternoon and in the combined.
Marc Marquez: “Today I gave 100% and finished in a better position than expected. Having said that, we will have to improve our pace to get closer to Suzuki and Fabio Quartararo, who are stronger than us in the race pace. I felt confident from the start, even if in some places I didn’t find the limit. I’m not racing with my driving style, now I can’t do it. However, the times are coming and this is the important thing. I didn’t expect to finish second, but I did expect a similar pace. Tomorrow the goal will be to qualify in the first two rows“.
“Things are a little easier with the new bike. This track is not one of my favorites, but this year things are different and the bike is easier to ride“, Added Espargaró. “I’m happy with today’s sensations. We will try to improve the flying lap tomorrow and find a good pace to be competitive in the race. Tomorrow we will go step by step to see if we can improve the times. We are ready to give our best to get a good lap time that will allow us to go straight to Q2. I feel fit, the bike did well on a track where it wasn’t usually dominant: today we achieved good times without the laps being perfect, which shows that the winter work is paying off“.
