Filed the stop and the fear for the diplopia that emerged in the last part of the season of 2021, Marc Marquez he is determined to get back on his Honda RC213V and give his rivals a hard time for that world title in the premier class which he has already won on six occasions. The Spaniard is aware that he is not yet in full physical shape, due to the usual injured arm in 2020, but he is confident that he can be in the fight for the championship, in the wake of the three victories obtained last year. His goal is therefore to be continuous and competitive, perhaps running profitably in the early part of the year, waiting to find the best possible physical feeling. It starts from Doha, Qatar, a track that saw Marquez triumph on two occasions (2012 in Moto2 and 2014 in Moto3). Absent in the two races of last year, the last of the Catalan in Lusail was in 2019, when he finished second behind Andrea Dovizioso. The Spaniard was among the protagonists of the usual press conference for the presentation of the Qatar Grand Prix: his statements are below.
Expectations. “First of all I am happy to be here, it is better than last year and this is important. After the winter my presence was not safe and it was important to do the tests in Malaysia and Mandalika. In particular, after the last test I felt I had made a very important step forward on a physical level. We will see how we start. For 2022 I want to fight for the title, maybe I won’t be able to be ready in Qatar already, but we’ll see where we are. “
The bike 2022. “The bike has progressed a lot and honestly it almost feels like I’ve changed brands, from how different it is. Since I joined Honda, the character of the bike has always been similar, but the change is now noticeable. During the first few races we will try to fix the details. The base is positive, we will see our level in qualifying and races. In the tests we were all very close, the balance between the bike and the riders will make everything more interesting. The new Honda is a bike suitable for multiple riding styles. Last year everyone said it was difficult, but I won three races and you don’t win races if the bike doesn’t go well. The change made was important and as a rider I understand Honda’s need to make it capable of fighting for the title regardless of the rider. The front works differently, but already in Mandalika I took it to my riding style. “
Feeling with the Qatar track. “There are 21 different grands prix on a calendar and Lusail is not among the best for my riding style and Honda itself has never been stronger here. This year the bike is strong, but I don’t know if I’ll be ready. If we win it means that we will be at a level that we could not imagine, it would be a dream. “
Aerodynamics in MotoGP. “For the show it was best when there were no wings. You could have overcome better, while now if you arrive in the wake sometimes the bike shakes. Without the wings it was more complicated to drive, now it’s easier and therefore making mistakes is more difficult. We need to be precise and smooth. “
Driving style after accidents. “Over the years I have learned to approach injuries differently and to take the right recovery time. But as soon as I am physically back at one hundred percent, I will take the same risks on the track as always. “
First year without Valentino Rossi. “He was not one of the main opponents for the title in recent years, and in fact I was looking to Bagnaia, Quartararo and Mir. Certainly MotoGP is losing an icon, but it continues and I think it will be a good season. “
Safety on the track. “I think the holeshot will be removed in the future, when I arrived last year I already said that. In this the pilots must be united. The builders want more and more and the holeshot makes the starting procedure even more difficult. Of course we are prototype bikes, but this is a device that will not be adopted on road bikes. It serves to slow down more and more later and I think it makes no sense for the future. “
The difficult time. “Up until two years ago I had a perfect career, then I experienced the opposite, the worst moments in the life of an athlete. In these two years I have learned that if you can organize your life well, you can both be competitive on the track and have time for your personal life. “
Expectations for Qatar. “I’m focused on myself, I can’t waste time. Victory is not Sunday’s goal for now. Over the course of the year I will understand what my level will be. I will try and I know that we must not exaggerate in the first race. But there are 25 points up for grabs and I will have to hurry to figure out how to go faster. “
War in Ukraine. “For me it is difficult to understand. I don’t know how we can get to this point in 2022. All of us and the whole MotoGP are against war and even more I do not understand how it is possible not to be able to stop what is happening. We give all the support to those who are suffering from this, but it is not enough, there are people more important than us who must stop what is happening. “
