On Wednesday the news of an imminent changing of the guard at the top of the official KTM team in MotoGP spread – unexpectedly – with theimminent release of Mike Leitner and the surprising arrival of Francesco Guidotti by the Ducati Pramac team. That of the Italian – as told by The Gazzetta dello Sport – it would be a comeback, having already worked with the Austrian brand in 250. The pieces of officialdom began to position themselves already this morning, when KTM made official the step backwards of Mike Leitner, who will now cover the role of simple consultant, as announced on its official website:
“KTM would like to express its gratitude to Mike Leitner for his dedication and commitment to the MotoGP program, confirming the resignation of the Austrian from his position as race manager of the team. 2022 will mark the sixth season in MotoGP for KTM e the official team will restructure their cadres. The 59-year-old will no longer hold the role of team leader, but will become a consultant. […] Pit Beirer, KTM motorsport director: “Mike has been a key figure in our mission to fight against the best racing brands in the world. We created the MotoGP structure together with the right staff and riders, which allowed us to achieve exceptional results in our sport. We started designing the RC16 from a blank piece of paper, and under his leadership we have put together a great team. Now after seven years together we have decided to reorganize the leadership of our MotoGP team for the future and I cannot express enough thanks for the hard work put into this project. Mike pushed hard to get us from the back of the grid to the front row ”.
