The Warm-Up gave a very clear idea of what the tire choices could be that we will see in the Spanish MotoGP Grand Prix this afternoon. Despite a fairly low temperature, all the riders except Stefan Bradl (who had the soft) mounted a new medium tire on the rear.
The thing we didn't like, however, was that some damp patches were still quite clearly visible on the asphalt of the Jerez de la Frontera track and most likely Fabio Di Giannantonio paid the price at turn 8 and Pedro Acosta at turn 7.
Both falls were truly bloody to see, but fortunately the bikes especially paid the price, with both riders getting back up without any problems. The accident of the Spanish rookie, however, also led to the display of the red flag with just under a minute to spare before the conclusion of the ten available, because his GasGas Tech3 literally destroyed the airfence, which he ended up crashing into even Acosta himself, for whom in any case there is only talk of a few bruises.
Looking at the performances, in the end the fastest was Alex Marquez, who with his Ducati GP23 was the only one to go under the 1'38″ barrier in 1'37″943. Behind him, 176 thousandths behind, we find Enea Bastianini with the official GP24. And just a thousandth further back, in third position, is Jack Miller's KTM.
The gap between Raul Fernandez and the Trackhouse Racing Aprilia is also less than two tenths, ahead of the three Ducatis of Jorge Martin, Pecco Bagnaia and Franco Morbidelli. Also interesting was the performance of Fabio Quartararo who, after reaching the podium in the Sprint before the penalty linked to tire pressure, placed his Yamaha in eighth place, just 351 thousandths of a second behind.
The top 10 is then completed with Di Giannantonio, fast despite the crash on his Ducati, and with Miguel Oliveira's Aprilia. Marc Marquez is therefore far from the top positions, 13th at 828 thousandths. The Gresini Racing driver was probably very cautious, because for him today the objective is undoubtedly to try and chase that victory that he threw away at the end yesterday.
In his wake there is also Maverick Vinales with the Aprilia and among the delayed riders there is also Marco Bezzecchi, 16th with the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Ducati, just ahead of the best of the Hondas, which was that of Takaaki Nakagami. After his sensational return to the podium yesterday, Dani Pedrosa also finished in the rear: the KTM wild card occupies 19th position at exactly 1.5 seconds.
