2021 was an unforgettable season for Yamaha, winner in MotoGP with Fabio Quartararo and in Superbike with Toprak Razgatlioglu. The house of the three tuning forks also scored in BSB (the British Superbike championship won by Scotsman Tarran MacKenzie) and in MotoAmerica with Jake Gagne.
Lin Jarvis recalled the results achieved by the manufacturer of the three tuning forks on the occasion of the presentation of the Monster Energy Yamaha 2022 team, underlining that for the Japanese manufacturer to have returned to the top of the world in MotoGP six years after the success of Jorge Lorenzo in 2015 was the flagship that also earned him the promotion to Takahiro Sumi from MotoGP project leader to General Manager of Yamaha’s motorsport division. According to Jarvis in 2022 Quartararo will be able to express himself with even more freedom now that he is world champion: “I think Fabio has lifted a burden and this will allow him to be even stronger in 2022 – her words – every season resets everything and therefore it will be very important as in 2021 to be not only fast, but also constant in always taking home heavy points. The goal is to win both the drivers ‘and constructors’ titles, it will not be easy, but we have a very strong pair of drivers and I am sure that Franco too will be able to ‘avenge’ a really difficult 2021 for him ”.
Massimo Meregalli stated that the Japanese technicians worked hard in winter to find some more horses: “To improve top speed at the end of the straights, the focus was on various aspects, starting with the engine of course, but also passing from aerodynamics to grip when exiting corners to get the best possible acceleration ”. The winter tests convinced Quartararo to a certain extent as the French rider said he expected more from Yamaha in terms of better powertrain. The 1999 class was still competitive both in Malaysia and Indonesia, in two weeks in Qatar it will already be time for the first exams.
