There is no peace for Marc Marquez and for the world of HRC. Since that cursed afternoon of 19 July 2020, when the Spaniard injured the humerus of his right arm for the first time on the Jerez track, the eight-time world champion has experienced a continuous ordeal. An entire season skipped, a second half spent trying to get back into shape, among a thousand other falls and ailments, and finally a final part of the 2021 championship in which the Cervera phenomenon seemed to have returned at least close to its pre- injury. At the most beautiful, however, came the enduro crash and the new vision problem, with the return of that diplopia that had already almost forced him to stop racing in 2011.
The result was that Marquez had to skipping the last two races of the year just ended and – above all – the Jerez tests. A serious problem in view of the 2022 World Cup, the one that in theory should have seen Marquez return to fight for the top positions of the championship. But now the doubts are much more worrying than the ‘banal’ reference to sports performance and concern the very continuation of the # 93’s career. Interviewed by the official MotoGP site in Jerez, where he is just for the post-season tests, the Honda manager Alberto Puig tried to clarify the delicate situation concerning the Japanese manufacturer’s top driver.
“The important thing is how he is – began Puig – and it is more or less always the same situation [rispetto a Portimao e Valencia]. It needs some time to rest, recover and see if this whole area around the eye becomes less swollen, shrinks and improves. We will see. Around Christmas we will have another check with the doctor and we’ll see what the situation is. Then we’ll probably make some decisions about which ones are [sue] possibility. Of course, he’s not happy he’s not here [ai test di Jerez]. At the same time, however, he understands that what he needs now is to rest and be patient. This is the situation”.
