Smile accentuated for theAprilia at the end of the second qualifying of 2022 in Mandalika. Aleix Espargaró he had easily centered direct access to Q2 thanks to the seventh time in free practice achieved on Friday and by virtue of the fact that the wet track, in the morning session, effectively froze the times of PL2. In qualifying he was doing very well in the second and decisive run, with the first two split times that placed him in the fight for a place in the first or second row, but a crash at turn 10 knocked him out just over two minutes from the checkered flag. The Spaniard will therefore start from the fourth row with the tenth place, thanks to the speed and his harmony with the RS-GP also shown this weekend.
“Too bad for that lap in qualifying, we could have gained some positions on the starting grid – he has declared Espargaró – Unfortunately I made a small mistake but I am still satisfied. The feeling with the RS-GP is good, we worked well on the pace and, even if we expect a race that is anything but easy, there are the conditions to do well ”.
A confidence that has yet to be earned by Maverick Viñales who, forced into the first qualifying round, did not hit one of the two valid places to access the front rows. He closed the session with a time of 1’32.006, seventh row in the grid that will kick off the first GP on Sunday on the new Indonesian track in Mandalika.
“Our starting position does not fully reflect the work done this weekend – has explained Viñales – Let’s say the pace and the way we handle the tires is better than our flying lap speed. But our focus is to work, to try, we will do it again tomorrow and if the desired results do not arrive we will try again the next race. I’ve always said that my championship will really start in Jerez, me and the RS-GP must become one ”.
