New lap, new comeback for Fabio Di Giannantonio. The driver of the Pertamina Enduro VR46 did not let himself be influenced by a qualification below expectations and at Mugello he showed off two performances which once again confirmed the great growth he has made in the last 12 months, becoming “one of the real ones” , as he himself defined himself.
The numbers are on his side, because since the long race in Jerez he has always placed in the top seven positions. And he made no exceptions even in Tuscany, because both in the Sprint and today he was able to recover from 14th place on the grid up to the seventh finish. Something he is very proud of and which made him the rider who made the most overtakings in the Italian MotoGP Grand Prix.
“I’m happy because I think I had a super race at the end. At Mugello there are many points to overtake, but it’s never easy, especially when there are these very tight races, in which you go very fast. Being what he did more overtaking, making an excellent seventh position starting 14th, with no crashes in front of me, so actually making seven overtakings, is something we can be proud of with the team,” said Di Giannantonio.
“The bike was really good in the race, so it’s all very positive and we’re going really strong. We’re constantly up front, but we’re missing that little something to really be in front with the best. We just need to have a weekend in which we get into Q2 , we find the set-up a little early and we can work on the details. But I feel very close and I’m very happy,” he added.

His first third of the season, therefore, can be considered very positive, but he was asked what he could have done even better: “When you don’t put all the pieces together it’s also my fault. It’s the team’s fault, understood as me and the team, because the work is done together. For example, the crash I made in Barcelona in free practice wasn’t good, rather than not being able to do a good lap to get into Q2 on Friday. which in the end don’t allow you to be up front. Both the team and I need to improve, but I think we already have a really strong package.”
Over the weekend he mentioned several times the desire to reach “the real ones”. Today, however, he clarified that he understood it more as a question of results than potential: “I feel like one of the real ones, but I need to achieve real results, for you too. I feel like a very strong rider. I feel like I can do races together with Bagnaia, Martin, Bastianini, as perhaps has already happened in the other categories in the past. Then it is clear that everyone has their own path, but I feel that I am growing a lot, I feel strong. We are arriving, we are working and we are doing a nice journey together with the VR46. And maybe in the next races we can already be with them.”
Finally, he gave a small preview of the work that awaits him in tomorrow’s test: “We have two big changes that Ducati brought us, in fact I’m very curious and I’m very excited, because when there are these new things you have an opportunity to do one step. It will be a very important day tomorrow, in fact we won’t be partying tonight, but we will remain focused.”
