The games are over, the world championship has been awarded, but the 2021 season has not yet come to an end. This weekend, in fact, MotoGP is back on track for the second time this year at the Portimao Circuit. The Algarve Grand Prix will not be key in terms of the riders ‘title, but Ducati faces the Portuguese weekend with the aim of conquering the constructors’ and team titles.
The fall at Misano deprived Pecco Bagnaia of world championship dreams, but in the Algarve he can redeem himself also mindful of the result obtained last April. In fact, in the last round in Portimao, the Piedmontese from Ducati had made a great comeback that had brought him from 11th place to second step of the podium. Therefore, the determination is certainly not lacking and the desire to do well is great, also because he will want to confirm the second position in the drivers’ standings.
“Having had a few days off after the Misano race was really useful to be able to recover the right energy to face the last two consecutive races of the season – says Bagnaia – The drivers’ championship has been assigned, but we must remain focused anyway: the our goal remains to always be able to obtain the maximum result during each race weekend, so I arrive in Portimão full of energy and determined to do well! “
“In the last GP held here I managed to get on the podium despite starting rather backwards in the race and this weekend we will try again to fight for the victory. We must try to bring home as many points as possible both to confirm the second position in the championship, but also to try to secure the teams and constructors’ titles. I am optimistic and confident that I can do well here in Portugal ”.
Jack Miller also wants to have a good weekend. Just like his teammate, the Australian finished the Misano race in the gravel, but Portimao will be important to redeem himself from the negative outcome of the race in Emilia Romagna. Also crashed in the April race held in the Algarve, Miller finds one more reason to do well this weekend.
“I’m happy to be back racing in Portugal – says Miller – The Autodromo do Algarve is truly an incredible track where I always have a lot of fun! Unfortunately on the last occasion we had a Grand Prix here, I was unable to finish the weekend as we hoped: after a crash on the sixth lap of the race, I was forced to retire, so I return to Portimão determined to redeem myself and fight for a good result! It is the penultimate race of the year and I want to end my season on a positive note. Furthermore, we are still fighting for the constructors’ title and the team title, so I will do everything to help Ducati and the team achieve these two important objectives ”.
