A preview of what 2022 will be for Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi today on the track in Jerez de la Frontera for the first day of the official MotoGP tests. Just over fifty laps per rider for the VR46 Racing Team’s MotoGP debut on the Ducati Desmosedici GP21. Enthusiastic about the atmosphere in the garage and the feeling at the wheel, Luca Marini finished 11th in the combined with a best lap time of 1.38.149 and a delay of just over eight tenths from the very first (Nakagami, 1.37.313 ed. ). A day of strong emotions also for Marco Bezzecchi, making his MotoGP debut after having closed the Moto2 Championship in third place overall. For Marco 53 you return today and a time trial of 1.40.732. Tomorrow both will be back on track for the second and final day of official testing.
Luca Marini: “It was a great day: the Ducati GP21 is fantastic. Nice to drive, a lot of feeling and a lot of feedback. It is really a pleasure to be able to race for this team, a good group: the atmosphere is special, there is a lot of positive energy, the desire to do well and I’m happy because I pushed to have each of them in the team. It will be a challenge for everyone, some people I already know from Moto2, others are new. We didn’t do much on the bike today, we rode to start understanding how it behaves and what differences there are compared to the one I used in 2020. Tomorrow, however, the goal is to improve the lap time and pace ”.
Marco Bezzecchi: “What a unique day. The Ducati Desmosedici GP21 is really fast! I started slowly, step by step, to better understand the bike. It was thrilling, impressive and very special. It is the first test, we don’t have time objectives just to find the best driving position and start to get familiar with power, engine braking and chassis. A special thanks to the whole team: they did a really great job to get here ready and support me as much as possible “.
