According to Gigi Dall’Igna, general manager of Ducati Corse, the perception of the Borgo Panigale bike has changed radically in recent seasons.
For a long time, the Desmosedici GP was the most feared bike in MotoGP, as it was considered particularly difficult to manage. However, Ducati has reversed the situation in recent times, thanks to a combination of various factors.
The Borgo Panigale brand is now the most represented on the MotoGP grid, with eight bikes in 2022, and has very close ties to its satellite teams. In 2021 he brought three drivers to the podium – including Jorge Martin of Pramac Racing – and five made it onto the podium.
Since they regained the victory in 2016, after six dry years, the technicians of the Bolognese company have worked to correct the defects of the Desmosedici GP, above all to improve the turning. Now the bike is becoming more and more manageable and adaptable to different riding styles, so it is no longer designed for just one rider.
“It hasn’t been a transformation that happened in a year,” said Gigi Dall’Igna in an interview with GPOne.com. “For many seasons Ducati has won with more riders: Iannone, Dovizioso, Lorenzo, Petrucci, Bagnaia, Martin and Miller”.

In a meeting with the media during the post-season test in Jerez, he had already underlined this aspect.
“In the past, many others have achieved good results, such as Bautista, who has done excellent races on our bike. So the light bulb has not only turned on this season for us. In my opinion it has been a path of growth that has brought us here, with a bike that, little by little, has progressed in terms of adaptability to the track and to the riders “.
“The goal has always been to design a bike that is not only good for a rider, but that is able to adapt to different riding styles.”
Precisely for this reason the Desmosedici GP seems to have become an ideal bike also for those who have to make their debut in the premier class, removing this scepter from the four cylinders in line.
“For some time now we have been getting closer to having an easier and more manageable bike. It is not an easy goal to achieve, we did it step by step but we succeeded. Ducati no longer scares the riders. Quite the contrary. it is a sought-after bike, because the riders think they can do well “, he concluded, always speaking with GPOne.com.
