The Dutch Grand Prixwhich took place yesterday on the historic track of Assen, generated in some respects an anomalous and memorable final classification at the same time: in addition to the absence of the Yamahas from the points area, a fact that had not occurred for 33 years, the Top-3 gave the Italian public a hat-trick as regards the ‘blue’ bikes on the podium, with two Ducatis in the first two places followed by Aprilia. Speaking of the latter, the only ‘foreign’ element can be traced back to the celebrations of the Spaniard Maverick Viñalesamong other things, also the author of a personal result of all value.
The 27-year-old, Moto3 world champion in 2013, has in fact joined a prestigious club of riders capable, over the course of their career, to conquer the greater number of podiums with more different bikes in MotoGP: well three. The 3rd place obtained yesterday was his first on the Aprilia, which joins those celebrated in Suzuki in the 2016 season, before moving to Yamaha, with which he took a total of eight victories. In this way, Viñales equaled the records of six other drivers, four of these Italians: Valentino Rossi, Andrea Dovizioso, Loris Capirossi and Marco Melandri.
Of the six world titles obtained by ‘Doctor’ in MotoGP, two of them were conquered in Honda, and then opened another parenthesis of world success in Yamaha. More unfortunate, however, was his experience in Ducati, where he still managed to finish on the podium in several races. In the last two and a half seasons, however, the one who remained far from the top three was Dovizioso, currently riding the Yamaha. Anyway, it is precisely with the Japanese house that ‘Dovi’ uncorked the champagne for the last time in his career, after the successes in Honda and Ducati, with which he graduated vice-world champion three times in a row. The podiums of Loris ‘Capirex’ Capirossi, present in the World Championship for 21 years, are also memorable. A very long career that allowed him to get on the podium first with Honda, and then repeated himself in Ducati and Suzuki. Finally, as regards the Italian riders, Marco Melandri could not miss the appeal, who boasts a podium with a bike different from all the others mentioned at the moment: after reaching the Top-3 with Yahama and Honda, the rider from Ravenna obtained in fact the last podium in his career with Kawasaki.
Excluding the Italians, the other two pilots capable of achieving such a record respond to the name of the British Cal Crutchlow, always present only in the MotoGP category of the World Championship. In ten years of career, the Englishman achieved the Top-3 with Honda, Yamaha and Ducati. Finally, the experience of the Brazilian was particular Alex Barrosprotagonist of three podiums in MotoGP also with Honda, Yamaha and Ducati, but able to finish among the top three in the race also with Cagiva and Suzuki, albeit in the 500 class.
