In 2023 he was Pecco Bagnaia’s main opponent in the race for his second world title and this year he transformed himself into the man to beat: Jorge Martin won at Le Mans with a strong victory, consolidating his lead in the standings and flying 38 points ahead of the reigning champion.
Riding the Pramac team Ducati, the Spaniard is putting himself forward as the main favorite for the 2024 title and last year’s defeat seems to have motivated him even more. Not only that: the Madrilenian appeared stronger and more aware of his abilities. He is the driver who boasts the highest number of Sprint victories (3 this year, 13 in total, more than 50% of the short races contested).
Although the paths of Martin and Pramac now seem destined to separate at the end of the season, the team led by Gino Borsoi knows it has a diamond in its hands that can make the Ducati satellite team shine, a feat that was almost achieved last year, but much more concrete in this first phase of the season. “We have never seen something like this from Jorge. We know that he is a talented rider, he showed his speed already last season, especially in the last part, but this year he is even stronger,” Borsoi declared at the end of the French Grand Prix to the official MotoGP website .

The Le Mans race was perhaps one of the most solid this year, with pole positions and track records accompanying the two sumptuous victories: “He’s had some fantastic races so far and Sunday was his best race of the season, in which he fought with two incredible riders and also managed to win. But not only today, he also did it on Saturday, when he broke the record in qualifying”.
In a MotoGP market that moves quickly and well in advance, Martin is one of the fundamental players and Ducati’s maneuvers create a domino effect. At the moment, however, Pramac is enjoying the man who he considers to be the best ever at this stage of the season: “Jorge is an incredible rider and we know we have another opportunity this year. We’ll see what happens in the future, but I think we have the best driver at the moment.”

“Compared to last year, he has taken another step forward, especially on the mental aspect. He knows he has all the tools, the bike and an incredible team behind him. He has another great opportunity, we just have to get to the track and work for the weekend without doing anything special, because he is always fast, not in just one race”, explained Borsoi, who leads the world champion team and the driver who is currently considered the main candidate for the drivers’ title.
Of course, the season is still very long, but in these first five races everything seemed to be going in the right direction, with the Jerez crash as the only misstep: “We know we have an excellent base and everything we need to fight. We’ll see how it goes, but let’s not go crazy about the title, although we have an incredible opportunity, obviously. If Jorge could beat Pecco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez, who have proven to be very fast. Winning the world championship against riders like that would be great. I hope we can experience races like this in the future too, it would be wonderful to be able to beat those riders”, concluded the Pramac team manager.
