After a two-month hiatus, Day-1 of the shakedown test reserved for MotoGP rookies at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia. Among the protagonists there was obviously also Marco Bezzecchi, riding the Ducati Desmosedici GP of the Mooney VR46 Racing Team. Among the very first to take to the track, with a special helmet dedicated to the pre-season that makes fun of the P for beginner driving, the Italian inaugurated 2022 by completing 38 laps and continuing to become familiar with the power of the new bike in view of the official MotoGP tests on 5 and 6 February next.
At work in the morning and in the second half of the afternoon to make the most of the more favorable temperatures of the track, Bezzecchi set his best lap time with a time of 02’02 ″ 012, closing at sixth place in the combined ranking of times. As scheduled, Bezzecchi and the Mooney VR46 Racing Team will return to work to complete the other two days of shakedown tomorrow and Wednesday.
“An exciting first day – commented Bezzecchi – it is already strange to have arrived at the garage and found two bikes there. Apart from the irony, a good Day1: we started gradually, also to keep some energy for the official test and test my condition well. I continued to try the Jerez material and felt comfortable. It is difficult to compare with others at the moment, I will continue to carry out my plan with the team in the coming days. They are all helping me a lot and doing a great job “.
“The wait is over and I am very happy to have finished the first day of testing here in Sepang. I saw Marco and the whole team very excited – the thoughts expressed by the team manager Pablo Nieto – they did a great job today and in the past few days. This is the first real test for the whole team, we spent the winter preparing for the new season and for the first time we are on track 100%. A good Day-1, Marco has trained a lot, he is physically ready and today he started to get back the feeling with the bike, the power of the Ducati and all the automatisms of the new category. I’m satisfied”.
