Pecco Bagnaia tried, but today his maximum was not enough to win and redeem the zero of the Sprint. The Ducati rider led the French MotoGP Grand Prix for the first 15 laps, but then had to give way to Jorge Martin who had remained glued to the tail of his Desmosedici GP until that moment.
The trouble is that when, on the last lap, he was attempting his final attacks on the “Martinator”, he left Marc Marquez the space to take second place from him too. An overtaking that cost him another 4 points in the world championship ranking, increasing the gap to be filled against the Spaniard from Prima Pramac Racing to 38 points, who significantly consolidated his leadership at Le Mans.
Once he arrived at the usual interviews, the reigning world champion tried to see the glass half full, but he was also honest in commenting on today’s result: “I’m sorry not to have won, but we did our best. Martin and Marquez They had more. Unfortunately I struggled a bit and couldn’t be fast in T3. In any case, the result is good and considering yesterday we can be happy. I missed a little bit, but we’ll try again in Barcelona,” he said Bagnaia on the microphones of Sky Sport MotoGP.
The doubt linked to the last lap is that Marquez managed to get past him because he was a little too busy trying to attack Martin. While he partially confirmed that his thoughts were aimed primarily at those ahead of him, he also gave credit to #93 for a particularly spectacular maneuver.

“My idea was to stay close to Martin. I wasn’t able to pass him at turn 7, where I wanted to try. I wanted to try again at turn 13, which was a point where I was stronger than him. Marc, however, braked very hard at turn 9 and I wasn’t able to brake that hard at that point, I always lost a little bit. But in the end Marc was incisive there and was also very good at the penultimate corner, because I wasn’t able to throw myself back in. In general, maybe we missed not having done the Sprint yesterday to understand the tires, but we will work to improve.”
On the other hand, he was asked if yesterday’s zero also led him not to risk too much today, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to afford another one: “Here at Le Mans it’s the first race I’ve finished in recent years and it was necessary I didn’t have the same feeling as in Jerez, but I was able to be more incisive than Jorge in some points. But he was in others, so I was never in a position to overtake him. I made a mistake in not taking advantage of the length he has done with two laps to go. But it was difficult, because the pace was very fast throughout the race.”
Now on the horizon there are two tracks that on paper could be friends and allow him to recover some points: “Unfortunately what happened yesterday in the Sprint happened, but it was already a good weekend here. Let’s hope something like this doesn’t happen again like. Unfortunately, I haven’t finished the race in Barcelona for two years either, but it’s a track where I’ve always been very strong, so we’ll try. Then above all comes Mugello, which is my home race, and we need it,” he said concluded.
