Jack Miller and Francesco Bagnaia took to the track this afternoon at the Lusail International Circuit in Doha for the first Friday of testing of the 2022 MotoGP season, which opens this weekend with the Grand Prix of Qatar, scheduled as usual at night. After a first FP1 session held with the sun and with asphalt temperatures just above 40 degrees, the Ducati Lenovo Team riders returned to the track at 6 pm, as the sun went down, for FP2, finding conditions similar to the ones they will probably meet in the race on Sunday. On the track illuminated by the spotlights, both Jack and Pecco improved their references in the morning, managing to finish in the top ten on Friday and securing provisional access to tomorrow’s Q2. In his “time attack” attempt, Miller improved his morning fastest lap by over a second and a half, finishing in sixth position in 1: 53.870, while Bagnaia stopped the clock in FP2 at 1: 53.971, obtaining the tenth overall time.
Jack Miller – 6th (1: 53.870): “Overall it was a good day. During FP2 I had some small problems that prevented me from constantly lapping, but in the end I managed to put together a good lap. Despite the sand surrounding the circuit, the asphalt today was quite clean and the conditions were really good. I am satisfied with these first two sessions here in Qatar and I’m confident I can improve again tomorrow“.
Francesco Bagnaia – 10th (1: 53.971): “I’m not entirely happy with this first day because I struggled a bit, especially at the beginning, and I expected to be able to be a bit faster tonight in FP2. In any case I am optimistic: my team and I have already identified which aspects to work on to be able to improve my feeling with the bike, so I am calm and convinced that I can do well tomorrow in qualifying“.
