The cathedral of motorcycling will remain a fundamental venue in the calendars of the two top international categories. The MotoGP and Superbike world championships, both run by Dorna Sports, jointly announced Thursday that they will continue to go to Assen until at least the 2031 season.
The announcement is completely logical, as Assen is one of the great classics, the longest-running circuit on the MotoGP calendar, given that the first appearance dates back to the inaugural season of 1949 with the legendary TT. However, it should be noted that the Dutch circuit already had a contract with the championship until 2026, so this is not an “at the last minute” renewal.
In fact, the 2025 season will be very important for Assen, because it will mark the centenary of the first TT, on a track that would then undergo changes in the 2006 season, until it became what it is today.
“We are incredibly pleased with this contract renewal, especially now that MotoGP is going strong. It reaffirms the status of the TT Assen as the flagship event of the MotoGP calendar. We are proud to continue building the future of motorsport together,” he said. declared Arjan Bos, President of Assen.

“We are delighted to confirm Assen’s long-term future on the calendar. It has been there since the first World Championship season in 1949 and no other venue has been with us for 75 years of racing, which we will celebrate in 2024. It is an event unique, but we don’t come back just for the history or the statistics”, reiterated Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta.
“Racing at Assen, even 100 years after the first races, is still something special and only gets better. It’s a fantastic, modern place that continues to give us incredible races and iconic moments, and there’s no better mix than the sport exciting of the world racing in one of its best places,” he added.
The World Superbike Championship will also continue to host the Dutch round at Assen, a classic event – held since the first season in 1992 – which was most recently held in 2024. The event attracted 56,734 attendances over the three days.
“We are proud to announce the continuation of the agreement with TT Circuit Assen which will be part of the WorldSBK calendar until 2031. TT Circuit Assen, with its rich history and exciting racing, continues to be a key part of WorldSBK heritage We are very happy to continue to offer the experience of exceptional racing to our fans”, commented Gregorio Lavilla, executive director of World Superbike.
