Vinales superhero
With the symbol of Batman on the chin guard, Maverick Viñales it was absolutely unplayable on the Austin weekend. Pole, victory in the Sprint and in the race: it was finally unlocked with the Aprilia and will be able to boast of being among the 5 drivers in history capable of winning with three different manufacturers (the others were Hailwood, Mamola, Lawson and Capirossi).
Enormous credit must be given to Vinales for the success in the Sunday GP, gritty but clear-headed like we haven't seen for years. The disastrous start that dropped him to 11th place might have brought back old ghosts, but he was able to stubbornly come back until the well-deserved final victory.
Acosta is there
For Pedro Acosta the numbers speak: the debutant in Austin with a MotoGP he gave something like 13″2 to Brad Binder (ninth) and 22″3 to Jack Miller (thirteenth), its brand mates in KTM. If in the first race he burned his tires out of too much impatience, in the next two he got on the podium. He is learning at an incredible speed.
Enea Bastianini's run was excellent, solid and concrete, which gave him the podium and second position in the drivers' standings. A decidedly positive result, given that the Italian is looking for confirmation for 2025 and does not yet seem to be 100% in tune with the Desmosedici GP24.
Jorge Martin didn't seem totally okaybut he took home a wise fourth place which underpins his world championship leadership: he has 21 points on Bastianini and 30 on Bagnaia.
Bagnaia and Marquez, what disappointments
At the end of Friday Francesco Bagnaia he had ensured he had some margin in his wrist to fight for pole. This was not the case. At the end of a not good Sprint (8th) he said he was convinced that simply by changing tires he would have fought for the top positions. He finished fifth. Pecco found himself 7.3 seconds behind the winner Vinales, and ended up behind the other two Ducatis of Bastianini and Martin. Who also precede him in the world rankings. What happens?
Marc Marquez he always looked shaky on his Ducati GP23 at COTA, and it's clear that he still doesn't have full knowledge of his bike. He is unable to 'play' in the saddle at the edge of the fall as happened in the golden days of Honda. At least he slipped when he was in front of everyone. Will it be enough for him to smile? Probably not. Meanwhile, in the standings there are more points behind Martin (-44) than those gained so far (36)…
