Aleix Espargaró and Maverick Viñales got off to a good start in the weekend leading up to GP of San Marino and Rimini Riviera. On the Misano circuit they hit the top ten quite easily. Both riders riding the RS-GPs have always been among the protagonists, since FP1 in the morning closed in fourth (Aleix) and fifth place (Maverick). In the afternoon session, much faster than the first, they occupied the very first positions for a long time, also showing great consistency on the fast pace but, once the tire was mounted for the last decisive run, only Aleix was able to improve the time trial. The traffic on the track prevented Maverick from being incisive in the time attack, the times achieved were sufficient to guarantee Viñales the sixth position in 1’31.882 and Espargaró the seventh place in 1’31.929. An important result also in consideration of the weather forecasts that give a chance of rain for the FP3 practice session on Saturday morning. If that happened, the Aprilia Racing riders would have already ensured access to the second qualifying, valid for the first four rows on the starting grid.
Aleix Espargarò: “I am satisfied, I arrived here with some doubts but today I felt good. Especially when it comes to consistency, with the medium tire the pace and sensations were good for the first day. I struggled a little more with the soft, I expected to be able to improve my time more. We will have to work on this because we know how important qualifying is here at Misano. In case of rain, the grip on the track is good after the resurfacing a few years ago, but I always hope to be able to finish the weekend in the dry ”.
Maverick Vinales: “We went strong. I enjoyed driving and am very happy with how we worked today. The pace is already good and we are in the right direction. Obviously there are still some details to work on, but the potential is there and we know we can improve, especially on the single lap. However, it is important to have already entered Q2 provisionally, this makes us feel more relaxed in case it rains in the morning, but we know that if it is dry the times will drop further and we will have to give our all to stay ahead. For the race it will be essential to start from the front row, and we will try ”.
