The United States hit their target, bringing the Motocross of Nations trophy back home after 11 years. Then doing it at home, on a RedBud circuit made particularly treacherous by the mud of the, was really the icing on the cake. For them it is the 23rd seal in the manifestation.
The trio made up of Eli Tomac, Chase Sexton and Justin Cooper minimized errors and with an almost perfect path conquered the top step of the podium in front of France and Australia. Italy, on the other hand, was placed at the foot of the podium, first among the “humans”.
Tomac was practically perfect in the first leg (MXGP + MX2), with only Jago Geerts able to keep up with the pace, although for him it was his debut on the 450. To give a dimension of the winner’s performance just look at the gap of the third: the French Maxime Renaux saw a good 58 “.
But also other undisputed talents such as Jeremy Seewer, Jorge Prado and the returning Tony Cairoli, called by the Italian coach to bring experience to the team, got well over a minute, with the Sicilian finishing in seventh place.
In Race 2 (MX2 + Open) came the response of the Australians, with the success of Jett Lawrence, even if the great protagonist was our Mattia Guadagnini. Having got out of the starting gate very well, the Italian driver conducted the operations for about twenty minutes, before passing the baton to Lawrence and the second position to the American Sexton. However, for Mattia it remains a test to be framed in front of the best on the world scene.
In the decisive heat (MXGP + Open) it was instead the turn of France with Renaux. This was the only race in which both the transalpines and the Australians managed to get the better of the States, as Lawrence confirmed himself in second position, but followed by Sexton. With one win each, it was above all the second places that made the difference and in particular the fourth place that Justin Cooper took home in race 2.
Too bad that in this third stage Guadagnini was involved in an accident at the start, which relegated him to 19th place, which therefore became the result rejected by Italy. However, Cairoli’s 9th place, added to Andrea Adamo’s two 15th places in the first two heats, allowed our team to get the better of Belgium and Spain in the sprint for fourth place.
