The pilot of the VR46 Racing Team has thus contributed to making this Sunday memorable also for the colors of the Italian flag, always hoisted on the top step of the podium also in Moto3 and MotoGP to celebrate the respective successes of Andrea Migno and Enea Bastianini. The 20-year-old Piedmontese, moreover, also crossed the finish line with the guarantee of the fastest lap of the race, made in the sixth lap on his Kalex.
Emotions underlined by Vietti himself, who commented on his success at the end of the Qatari race: “The best victory I could wish for – said the championship leader – I knew I was fast, but I didn’t think I had this pace and could do a race like this. I tried, but I didn’t think I would be able to go away with the soft. We knew there were a lot of fast riders, the plan was to start well and push hard. Then I made two small mistakes in the middle of the race, but I reacted, held firm and finished very well. I’m happy, I’m happy for the Team because they did a lot in the pre-season, for all those who have always believed in me. I couldn’t ask for more for the first race of the season and for the first victory in Moto2 ″.
Less brilliant debut in Moto2 for the second VR46 of Niccolò Antonelli, started from the 30th and last position of the starting grid. The rider from Rimini, author of a complex start, nevertheless recovered in the second half of the GP, finishing in 26th place: “In the end it wasn’t a bad race – explained the 26-year-old – a lot of experience in a new category and on a challenging track. We have a lot to work on with the whole team, they are doing a lot to put me in a position to take a step forward. We continue to stay focused ”.
