Missing less and less at the start of the 2022 season, Qatar will open the world dances, but before getting to the heart of the championships, the winter ends with the usual tests. MotoGP completed the two sessions in Sepang first and then in Mandalika, while Moto2 and Moto3 were engaged yesterday and today in two days of pre-season testing in Portimao.
The two preparatory classes for MotoGP landed on the Algarve track to finalize the details and arrive as ready as possible in Losail. Many news, on the Lusitanian track we were able to see several debuts, first of all that of Pedro Acosta in Moto2. The reigning Moto3 champion is familiarizing himself with the intermediate class, but he is just one of the many riders who in these two days have worked on adapting to new bikes, new classes, or even entered the world scene for the first time.
Moto2: Dixon and Canet dominating the two days of testing
Jake Dixon and Aron Canet share the top of the standings of the times of the two days. The Brit, who dominates Day 1, closes Day 2 in fourth position for a 2022 that promises to be interesting. But the leader of the last day is Canet, who takes the lead ahead of Pedro Acosta by just 37 thousandths. The rookie tried to attack at the time, only to have to settle for second position, however he already seems to be frightening. In fact, the reigning Moto3 champion proved to be competitive right from the start, also finishing in front of his teammate, Augusto Fernandez. Team Ajo’s 2022 starts on the right foot, and at the end of Day 2 places its riders in second and third position.
Joe Roberts and Marcel Schrotter finish Day 2 behind Jake Dixon, fourth as mentioned, and occupy the fifth and sixth position respectively. The two of them also confirm the top 10 after the good performances of the first day and improve their time trial. Fermin Aldeguer is the first of the non-Kalex drivers and finishes in seventh position with the Boscoscuro of the MB Conveyors Speed Up team. Eighth is Ai Ogura, while Cameron Beaubier and Albert Arenas close the top 10 in ninth and tenth position respectively.
Moto2 is a stingy test of Italians in the top positions: both in the first and second day, the first of the Italian riders is in fact 11th. If yesterday the “standard-bearer” was Celestino Vietti, today it is Tony Arbolino, while the Mooney VR46 driver is 16th. Between the two is placed Lorenzo Dalla Porta, 13th, while it is necessary to scroll up to the 22nd position to find Simone Corsi, who precedes Romano Fenati, 23rd. Alessandro Zaccone and Niccolò Antonelli also struggled, 25th and 27th respectively.
Moto3: Leopard dominates, Suzuki makes the big voice on both days
The test for the Leopard team did not seem to have started in the best way, or at least for a part of the garage. In fact, Dennis Foggia did not take to the track yesterday due to a gastroenteritis, but today he made up for the interests. The Roman rider was in the lead until the checkered flag, when Tatsuki Suzuki snatched the best time from him, retouching it by just 19 thousandths. With 1’47 ”390 on Day 2, the Japanese dominated the Portimao tests, having also finished the first day in the lead. Foggia signed the second time trial at the end of Day 2, thus completing a more than satisfactory two days for the Leopard team.
If Italy is not too present at the top in Moto2, the same cannot be said in Moto3, which sees three Italians in the top 10. In fact, Andrea Migno is in the wake of Foggia, third just over a tenth at the end. of the second and last day. Alberto Surra also starts on the right foot, moving to seventh position, just under eight tenths of a second behind the leader of the day.
Carlos Tatay is the author of a great comeback in the standings of the times in the final stages of the day and leaps to fourth position, 344 thousandths from the top. The Spaniard precedes John McPhee, fifth in front of Sergio Garcia, sixth. David Munoz closes in eighth position, while Ayumu Sasaki and Ryusei Yamanaka complete the top 10 in ninth and tenth position respectively.
To find the other Italians you have to scroll to the 15th position, where Stefano Nepa is. Followed by Riccardo Rossi, 17th. Matteo Bertelle and Elia Bartolini are 22nd and 24th in their Moto3 debut tests. The two precede Ana Carrasco, who returns to the prototype world championship this year and is the only woman on the track: the Supersport300 champion of 2018 is 25th. Deniz Oncu stops, fell during the day and stopped for pain in his left foot.
