The Moto2 world title will be awarded in Valencia, but Remy Gardner on the spectacular Portimao track he managed to put a very serious risk on the final success in the championship. The Australian rider in fact won the Algarve GP, preceding his rival teammate from the KTM Ajo team Raul Fernandez its English Sam Lowes of the Marc VDS, thus bringing the margin on the Spaniard to 23. 25 points up for grabs in next week’s race, when Gardner just needs to cross the finish line in 13th place to be sure of the title, regardless of Fernandez’s results.
Today’s race was a tactical masterpiece from Garnder, who fitted a rear compound hard rubber, unlike his direct rival, who had chosen a soft one. Fernandez initially took advantage, taking the lead and attempting the draw. The escape, however, was not successful for the Spaniard, chased first by Bezzecchi and then by Gardner himself. As the laps went by, the rear compound of the Spanish rookie got more and more damaged and Fernandez was first caught up, then overtaken, and finally detached from his son of art. A step of the shrimp that however did not cost him the second place, saved for about a second on a comeback Lowes.
