MotoKicX serves up a song about or starring motorcycles every Thursday. This week: Mötley Crüe with ‘Hooligan’s Holiday’.
Ever since the Netflix film ‘The Dirt’ was released, everyone knows who Mötley Crüe’s poodle rockers were: drummer Tommy Lee who got to inspect the inside of Pamela’s red bathing suit, bassist Nikki Sixx who was so addicted to ‘golden brown ‘that he just and square public squirted, along with guitarist Mick Mars and vocalist Vince Neil. Moreover, all the band members had a thing for motorcycles, and they didn’t stop (and stick) that. The lyrics often refer to their riotous lifestyle as well as their favorite two-wheelers:
Cross-eyed derelict comin’
An iron horse between our legs
Tattoos and black manes flowin’
Every day’s a holidaze
In 1985 it almost ends in disaster for Lee: after a concert he gives a bassist friend (Joey Vera of Armored Saint) a lift home on his motorcycle. On the highway around Hollywood, Lee loses control of his steering wheel, his Harley flips over seven times and both rockers end up in the hospital. Miraculously, Lee barely has anything, but Vera’s hand is so shattered that he won’t touch a bass guitar for months.
