There has never been anyone, or almost, like him: with the greatest number of victories achieved in Moto3 and with the record he could achieve in the category for the greatest number of seasonal successes (a record that Valentino Rossi still holds today since 1997 with 11 victories in the then 125), David Alonso became the 2024 Moto3 world champion with four races to go. A result that definitively allows the 18 year old to enter history not only for the goals achieved, but also for having become the first Colombian pilot to have entered in the roll of honor of the MotoGPwith a future that now awaits him still in the Aspar team, but in Moto2.
Race report
To win the title already in Japan, Alonso would have had to finish the race with a gap of at least 100 points from his direct pursuer Daniel Holgado, who put his opponent in difficulty right from the start of the race. Despite qualifying in 9th place, the Spaniard made a lightning start, to the point of moving up to second position already during the first lap behind Ortolà, also favored by an unfortunate start by Veijer. Even on the Motegi circuit there was no shortage of battles for the podium area and for victory right from the first laps, with Fernandez leading right ahead of Ortolà and Holgado, with Alonso apparently in more difficulty and out of the top-5 in the first half of the race. However, the Colombian’s ascent began on lap 9, with the #80 first overtaking Ortolà for 2nd place, then attempting the definitive attack on Fernandez and managing to gain the lead. A victory made ‘easier’ two laps from the end also due to Ortolà’s fall and the great comeback of Veijer, 2nd ahead of Fernandez and Holgado, unable to keep the fight for the title alive due to the 109 point delay in world ranking.
