The Moscow authorities believe that the omicron strain of the coronavirus may displace the delta in the coming days and become dominant. This is reported Interfax with reference to the press service of the mayor and the government of the capital.
“In the coming days, the omicron is likely to completely replace the delta that dominated last year,” the report says.
Earlier, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin warned that the daily incidence of COVID-19 would continue to rise in the capital next week due to the spread of the strain. Sobyanin also said that young people and middle-aged citizens are most often ill with the new omicron strain.
As of January 14, more than 700 cases of infection with the omicron strain of coronavirus were detected in Moscow. In total, for the period from December 20, 2021 to January 13, 2022, 729 cases of omicron were registered in Moscow.
