British intelligence reveals “serious tactical errors” by Russian troops on the front lines reflecting Kremlin’s “strategic mismanagement”
Russian troops continue their advance, focusing their offensive on the Donbas region, three months after the start of the invasion. And this despite the “serious tactical failures”, according to British Intelligence, that the Airborne Forces have committed; a team of 45,000 troops, made up of professionals with elite status for which they receive additional payment. They handle the “hardest operations” and suffered heavy casualties during the war. Its failures, the UK Ministry of Defense assured on Twitter, reflect Russia’s “strategic mismanagement”.
Tactical errors include, the report reveals, an attempt to attack kyiv through the Gostomel airfield in March; the offensive towards Izium stalled since April; and the recent failed crossing over the Severski Donets River, which cost Kremlin troops dearly. British Intelligence lashes out at Moscow, pointing out that the misuse of the Airborne Forces in Ukraine shows how Vladimir Putin’s massive investment in his Army over the past 15 years has left him “unbalanced.”
Still, the amount has benefited Russia as it was able to build up reserves faster. “We lost to their Army in terms of pace. They racked up reserves before we did. We are falling behind, which makes the situation on the front extremely difficult,” Oleksiy Arestovich, adviser to the Ukrainian Presidency, said on Thursday. However, Russian casualties already reach the figure of 29,600, confirmed the Armed Forces.
The Russian advance continues and the fighting in the east of the country reaches its “maximum intensity”. “We have before us a long and extremely difficult period,” said the Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Defense, Ganna Malyar, reiterating the comments made the previous day by the governor of Lugansk, Sergei Gaidai, who this Thursday again stressed that the attacks are ” constant”, although his troops “are holding on”.
4,000 civilians killed
Moscow is trying to improve its tactical situation in Izium and restart the offensive in Sloviank, in addition to concentrating its efforts on controlling Liman, Severodonetsk and Avdiivka, the Ukrainian Army General Staff said. The kyiv authorities denounced this Thursday the death of six civilians – and twelve wounded – due to Russian attacks in Donbas, where the invaders have already attacked 41 settlements. Hours earlier, Donetsk Governor Pavlo Kirilenko reported the death of four other citizens. According to the UN, so far around 4,000 civilians have been killed and more than 4,600 injured, most of them in Donbas.
The Kremlin called on kyiv to “recognize the real situation” on the battlefield and accept its demands to end the conflict. But his point of view is not shared. This is the case of the German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, who predicted that Putin will not win the war. He still “has failed to achieve any of his strategic objectives. The conquest of the whole of Ukraine is further away today than at the beginning of the invasion », he stated.
