The Abu Dhabi Sports Council announced the participation of American Colin Morikawa, the recent winner of the DP World Golf Championship, and Rory McIlroy, holder of four major golf titles, in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, in the first stop of the Rolex series, as part of the Tour D Bworld 2022 on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.

Morikawa completed his distinguished season this year by achieving his first achievement in the Rolex series, after winning the DP World Golf Championship, as he prepares to participate in the events of 2022, leading the championship after defeating his American counterpart Billy Horshill after a strong competition that continued throughout the season.
The world number two managed to achieve his first victory in the 2021 Open Championship, to win the second major golf title, after winning the Work Day Championship held at The Concession Club in February as part of the World Golf Series competitions.
Morikawa said: “I am looking forward to returning to the Middle East and participating in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship for the first time, as the event has a reputable reputation and attracts the elite of the golf world every year. I think this year will be exceptional as the tournament kicks off at Yas Links Stadium for the first time.
He added, “Yas Links Stadium is very popular with both amateur and veteran players. In turn, I am looking forward to the start of the season in Abu Dhabi as the reigning DP World Golf Championship.
Rory McIlroy returns again to record his 12th participation in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and compete for its title, after coming close to winning it several times, as the 32-year-old finished second and third 4 times.
The four-times major golf champion finished his 2021 career sixth at the end of the DB World Tour Championship season, finishing eighth in the season’s global rankings.
For his part, McIlroy said: “I have many great memories of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, and I am looking forward to the start of the new season in this wonderful tournament, and I am confident that Yas Links will provide a new, distinctive and exciting challenge for the players.”
He added, “I came close to winning this tournament several times, so I am confident that I can give my best, and I hope to have the opportunity to lift the trophy for the first time in this tournament.”
