Two excellences together to give life to a purely artisanal limited edition. Morgan Motor Company and Pininfarina presented the Midsummer, a special edition of the Six Plus and an example of expert coachbuilding, the result of the shared work of two centuries-old companies in the automotive world. Only 50 examples of this special little boat, all already sold after customers were able to admire it during a private preview. The Midsummer is scheduled to debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.
Features
This special creation is based on the Morgan CX-Generation Bonded Aluminum and features a 340 HP 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. With its elegant shapes, reminiscent of the cars of the 1930s and 40s, the Midsummer created by Morgan and Pininfarina is lighter than the traditional version of the Plus Six, weighing only 999.71 kg. This balance is achieved also thanks to the new vintage wheels which weigh 3 kg less, with 19″ forged rims and shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tyres. Compared to the standard Morgan Plus Six, some stylistic changes have been made to maximize the ‘aerodynamics, with changes to the fenders especially regarding lift in front of the front and rear wheels, whose steeper lines help keep turbulent air away from the panel. The aerodynamic optimization took advantage of the unique skills of Pininfarina, complete with the Fuoriserie badge present on the bodywork. The front fenders and nose are unique to Midsummer, their volume concentric to the shape of the wheels, respecting a key design philosophy of simple primal geometry, but differentiating it from other Morgan models.
Morgan Midsummer design
Hand-formed stainless steel lower sills conclude the fenders, giving a sense of volume and providing an undercut. This feature is inspired by early Pininfarina designs, while the stainless steel finish allows the vehicle to take on the color of its surroundings, integrating with the environment itself. At the front, new Morgan headlights, finished with silver inserts, flank the horseshoe grille which features a crescent shape at the top of the shroud. This crescent shape, in addition to being a key design element, also helps direct airflow into the grille opening. On the sides of the horseshoe grille are small vertical vents that further aid airflow and cooling. The use of wood is extensive, another artisanal element that recalls the nautical world.
