Over the past day in Russia, 28,717 new cases of coronavirus infection were detected in 85 regions. This was announced on Wednesday, October 13, by the operational headquarters to combat the spread of COVID-19.
The largest number of new cases of COVID-19 in 24 hours was recorded in Moscow (4,410), St. Petersburg (2,470) and in the Moscow region (1,898).
The number of deaths due to infection over the past day was 984, 21 801 people recovered.
In total, since the beginning of the pandemic, 7,861,681 cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Russia, 219,329 people have died, 6,916,086 patients have fully recovered. Earlier, on October 12, the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova spoke about the situation with COVID-19 in the regions of Russia. According to her, an upward trend in morbidity is recorded in all federal districts of the Russian Federation, with 33% of all cases over the past week in the capital region and St. Petersburg. A stable situation is observed in eight regions of the country.
On the same day, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that 43 million people, almost a third of the population of Russia, were fully vaccinated against coronavirus. He also explained that a situation with a shortage of vaccines cannot arise in the country.
On October 11, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the difficult situation with COVID-19 in the country was caused by the low level of vaccination of the population. According to him, there is no alternative to vaccination.
A large-scale vaccination has been taking place in Russia since January. Citizens are vaccinated free of charge and voluntarily. Five vaccines against coronavirus have been registered in the country: Sputnik V, Sputnik Light, EpiVacCorona, EpiVacCorona-N and KoviVac.
