More than 2 million people had to leave their homes in Ukraine, says UN

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, said this Thursday (3) that, since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, more than 2 million people have had to leave their homes in the country.

Half were forced to move internally within the country’s territory, while the rest left for neighboring territories, according to records from the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

“UNHCR has estimated that up to four million people could leave the country in the coming weeks if the conflict continues,” Bachelet said during an urgently convened debate at the UN Human Rights Council.
