Joachim Kost (34) lives in a 1930s house in Rotterdam. He would like to make his home more sustainable. “On the internet I come across a wide range of subsidies at all kinds of government levels. It’s great that these schemes exist, but in the forest of subsidies I miss a well-organized place where I can find everything.” And how do you go about applying for a subsidy towards the costs, he wonders. A list of concrete steps would be nice. For example, do you have to apply for a subsidy first, or do you first have to have a check of your home done?
For example, Kost would like to install high-efficiency glass. Most windows now have single glass. “But if I want to apply for a subsidy from the government for this, I still have to make a second adjustment, such as insulating floors or walls.” And that is difficult in his home. “We don’t have a cavity wall to fill and because we have an upstairs apartment, soil insulation is not possible.”
