The average age of the population in Germany is particularly high. The consequences may soon be felt. The FDP considers more immigration to be necessary – but into jobs.
Berlin – The new FDP parliamentary group leader Christian Dürr advocates a significant increase in immigration into the German labor market.
This is necessary to meet the demand for workers and to enable growth, but also to secure the social systems, said Dürr of the German press agency. “The federal budget is now injecting more than 100 billion euros into the statutory pension scheme as a tax subsidy. These are all legitimate claims of pensioners. But it shows the demographic imbalance. ”On Tuesday, Dürr was elected to succeed Christian Lindner as leader of the Liberals in the Bundestag.
“The head of the Federal Employment Agency speaks of the necessity for 400,000 people to immigrate every year. I think the number is realistic and want to justify it, ”said Dürr. “Firstly, in terms of economic policy: Together with Japan, we are one of the oldest countries in the world. Workers are currently being sought in all sectors in Germany without exception. Our prosperity depends on whether we can do it. “
Important for necessary investments
The aim must be to enable migration into the German labor market, not just into the social security systems. Only if this succeeds will Germany have growth rates that can then be used for investments in education, climate protection and the stabilization of social security systems.
Germany must behave like a modern immigration country and orient itself in the management of immigration to countries like Canada, New Zealand or Australia. “Everyone who wants to immigrate to Germany and everyone who is here must ask themselves the question: Does he or she want to live in the middle of German society? And does he or she want to be successful in the job market? I think there are two prerequisites, ”said Dürr. “And if these are not fulfilled, then integration will not be successful.”
Regardless of this, it is right to grant asylum or refugee status to people who have fled wars and whose lives are directly threatened. “But I would separate the two things. One is humanitarian aid and the other is targeted immigration into the German labor market, ”he said. It is also unclear where the immigrants will come from in the future. “I can only speculate, that will also be the Asian region, but that has to be shown,” said Dürr. “But the mere fact that we don’t really know it today shows how bad we were in the past.” Dpa
