Just as announced yesterday, the new trailer for Morbius, the Marvel film that will tell the origins of the homonymous villain from the Spider-Man comics who is part of the Sony universe dedicated to the characters of climbing-walls, SSU (Sony’s Spider-Man Universe).
The first trailer has now arrived almost two years ago, in January 2020 which now seems further away than it actually is. The footage saw Jared Leto as Dr Michael Morbius and his transformation from a sick man to a monstrous being with superhuman powers.
However, nothing has been heard since. The release was scheduled for summer 2020, but due to the pandemic there have been numerous postponements, as well as for many other films. However Sony hasn’t given much more news regarding the production, so over time i doubts about the existence of this film have begun to arise.
Yesterday, however, a new clip was uploaded to the platforms that featured Jared Leto himself talk about the character of Morbius and anticipating that the new trailer would arrive today, breaking the silence that surrounded this project.
The release of the new trailer today (November 2, 2021) is not accidental, as it falls on the 50th anniversary of Morbius’s debut in the pages of Marvel comics, at the hands of Roy Thomas and Gil Kane. The images show new sequences, some already anticipated in yesterday’s clip, between the search for one cure for blood disease of the protagonist, using his vampire powers (with a wink at a famous scene from Batman Begins).
Speaking of comics and links, there are also some doubts about the setting here: in the previous video two years ago you could see a mural with Tobey Magure’s Spider-Man, while then he appeared on the scene Michael Keaton’s Vulture.
Here instead we see in passing the Daily Bugle newspaper, the famous head with the same logo it had in the Sam Raimi trilogy, while in the universe of Tom Holland it has become a podcast, also presented by J. Jonah Jameson. This film, although it will come later Spider-Man No Way Home, it was originally planned before of the film of the wall climber.
So a connection with No Way Home? Or does it just serve to set the stage for the return of Holland’s Spider-Man to Sony land? We just have to wait and find out in the room.
