Morandi process at risk. Summits of Autostrade reject the judge
The trial for the collapse of the Morandi bridge, which cost the lives of 43 people in Genoa, has not even started but is already at risk. The preliminary hearing, in fact, – reads the Giornale – is already in danger of being postponed due to the decision of the lawyers of Giovanni Castellucci, former CEO of Aspi, Paolo Berti, former general manager, Michele Donferri Mitelli, former general manager of maintenance and former managers and technicians Stefano Marigliani, Massimo Meliani and Paolo Strazzullo, who decided to challenge the judge Paola Faggioni, called to decide who to acquit and who to accept the request for a possible shortened procedure of the 61 defendants (59 plus two companies, Aspi and Spea).
In this case – continues the newspaper – judge Faggioni would have already tried the defendants in another trial. According to the lawyers, the magistrate cannot judge this time as he had already ruled on some of the accused and also directly on the investigation of the Morandi bridge. The lawyers argue that the judge cannot decide whether or not to send the defendants to trial because in 2019 she was the one who signed the precautionary custody order with which Castellucci and the former leaders of Aspi were placed under house arrest in the context of investigation into dangerous sound-absorbing barriers.
