An overall positive start to the weekend for the Mooney VR46 Racing Team MotoGP duo on the track in Assen for the Dutch GP. Marco Bezzecchi is ninth in the combined Day-1, temporarily qualified for Q2, while Luca Marini closes in 12th place.
Immediately at ease, despite the pouring rain, on the Ducati Desmosedici GP in FP1 (1’43.542 ed), Marco is the protagonist of a good step forward in FP2. Among the strongest in the second half of the afternoon session, with dry tires, he signed the time of 1’34.312, before being forced to the pits for a crash in the final minutes. With this time, he is only one second behind the provisional pole (Bagnaia, 1’33.274 ed).
At work to better understand the very particular conditions of the track and not far from the Top10, also Luca 24th in FP1 (1’45.392 ed) and today in 12th place under the checkered flag thanks to a best lap of 1’34.536.
Luca Marini: “It has been a bit of a complicated day, I have never been really fast but we have collected a lot of data, both in the dry and in the wet, to better face tomorrow’s sessions and be ready for any eventuality. The goal is certainly to seek access to Q2 in FP3, I hope for a dry session, and then take a final step forward for qualifying “.
Marco Bezzecchi: “I would say a decent first day here in Assen and a real shame for the two crashes, especially the second in FP2 when I was keeping a great pace. I was very confident in driving, I touched the white line lightly, which was not completely dry and I crashed. I was sorry not to be able to finish the session, I had good feelings on the bike. Matteo (Flamigni ed), Sergio (Martinez ed), the whole team and Ducati did a great job and I’m very happy. We are working on the data to do well tomorrow in FP3 and adapt as best as possible to the weather“.
