The monument to Minin and Pozharsky was successfully dismantled from the pedestal on Red Square for restoration work. This was announced on Thursday, January 13, by the director of the State Historical Museum Alexei Levykin.
The specialists decided not to transport the monument due to the existing risks, and the work will be carried out in the restoration pavilion installed directly above the monument.
The sculpture has already been transferred with the help of a beam crane to the restoration table. First, specialists will have to examine the monument in detail.
“In the process of restoration, the technological frame of the figures and the remains of the molding sand through the technological holes will be removed, the internal and external surfaces of the sculptures and bas-reliefs will be restored, and the plinth frame will be replaced,” the press service of the museum said.
The restoration work is expected to be completed by November 2022. The sculpture will be restored by the Interregional Scientific and Restoration Artistic Administration. The cost of the work is 55 million rubles.
In August 2018, the Historical Museum announced an all-Russian campaign to raise funds for the restoration of the monument to Minin and Pozharsky. On October 20 of this year, the restoration work, interrupted earlier, continued.
