The União Brasil candidate won the election by a wide margin in the city of Minas Gerais; Ruy Muniz (PSB) came in 2nd place
The candidate for mayor of Montes Claros (MG) Guilherme Guimarães (União Brasil), 60 years old, was elected in the 1st round. With 78.82% of the ballots counted in the city of Minas Gerais, Guilherme received 71.36% of valid votes – attributed to a name, excluding blanks and null votes.
The current mayor, Ruy Muniz (PSB), came in 2nd place, with 11.09%, followed by Délio Pinheiro (PDT), with 5.43%. Muniz is annulled under judice, which means that his registration was rejected by the TSE.

ELECTIONS IN MONTES CLAROS
The city of Montes Claros, with more than 413 thousand inhabitants, had 6 names in the race for mayor. The last 3 mayors were:
- Humberto Souto (Cidadania), was elected in 2016 by the PPS, and was re-elected in 2020 by Cidadania;
- Ruy Muniz (PSB), was elected in 2012;
- Luiz Tadeu Leite (PMDB), was elected in 2008.
Municipal elections in the city were focused on the dispute between Guilherme Guimarães and former mayor Ruy Muniz. Candidates supported by the parties of President Lula and former President Bolsonaro had little participation in the dispute.
WHO IS GUILHERME GUIMARÃES
Guilherme Guimarães is a civil engineer and teacher, he was vice-mayor of Montes Claros on the ticket with Humberto Souto. He has already held public positions as secretary of the municipality’s portfolios.
He was also president of the Regional Association of Architectural Engineers and Agronomists of the North of Minas (ÁREA), as well as director-president of the Montes Claros Municipal Water and Sanitation Agency (AMASBE).
