It's a Jaguar party
Race full of upheavals and emotions in the Principality of Monaco, between contacts and team games which ultimately rewarded the Jaguar. Precisely on the weekend of the announcement of its stay in Formula E until 2030, thus entering the GEN4 era, the British company celebrates the double characterized by first victory for Mitch Evans in Monte Carlo and Nick Cassidy in second position before two o'clock DS Penske by Stoffel Vandoorne and Jean-Eric Vergne. Faded podium for Pascal Wehrlein, 5th ahead of an aggressive Oliver Rowland capable of making a good comeback from the back. A weekend to forget for the reigning world champion Jake Dennis, 20th following contact with Sergio Sette Camara.
Strategies between companions
Werhlein who actually seemed to be on his way to winning the victory, as demonstrated by the excellent start in which he managed to maintain the lead ahead of Vandoorne and the two Jaguars of Evans and Cassidy, with Rowland in turn doing well to move up two places just like Dennis. The first turning point of the race, however, occurred on lap 3, with the Porsche German becoming the first to activate the attack mode, slipping to 5th place also due to a spectacular overtaking suffered by Vergne on the outside of the Nouvelle Chicane . In a phase of the race characterized by numerous contacts, especially in the center of the group, the Safety Car she entered the scene at 5th roundthanks to a risky maneuver by Ticktum on Mortar at the entrance to the Louis Chiron chicane with the violent impact of the Swiss driver against the barriers. In this circumstance Vandoorne finds himself in the lead ahead of Evans and Cassidy, but on the restart (on lap 8) the Belgian also activates the attack mode, thus leaving the way clear for the two Jaguars. However, unlike the previous riders who found themselves at the top of the rankings, Evans managed to pull away from his pursuers, to the point of maintaining the leadership even after the attack mode. At this juncture, moreover, every attempt at a comeback is extinguished Dennisforced to return to the pits to replace the front wing after a contact with Sette Camara, then penalized 5 seconds. The advantage gained by Evans pushes the New Zealander to use the second attack mode, once again maintaining the lead on the 13th lap. Halfway through the race, however, the New Zealander handed over the lead to Cassidy to implement a team play, with his compatriot also taking advantage of the extra energy. A further exchange of positions takes place between the two on the 17th lap, with Vandoorne still 3rd ahead of Vergne. Behind him, a strategy is also taking shape at home Porsche, with Da Costa defending Wehrlein from Rowland's return allowing the #94 to maintain fifth place. Second Safety Car at the end also due to the impact with the barriers Müllerwith the Race Direction who adds 2 turns to the 29 total initially expected, but the situation in the top-5 does not change: while Evans passes as the winner under the checkered flag, with Jaguar thus achieving a double with Cassidy's 2nd place, Vandoorne takes the podium ahead of Vergne , able to defend himself from Wehrlein's attacks. 6th, finally, Rowland, who gains precious points to stay in the fight with Wehrlein and at the same time to pull ahead of Dennis.
