Gas distribution company “Moldovagaz” fully paid off the Russian “Gazprom” for the January gas supplies. Its chairman Vadim Cheban wrote about this on Monday, February 14, in his Telegram channel.

In October last year, Moldovagaz and Gazprom extended the gas supply contract for five years. For Moldova, a new formula for calculating the cost of this energy carrier was approved, taking into account the ratio of market prices for gas and oil.
The main conditions of the new contract were timely payments and repayment of debts for gas from Moldovan consumers. “Moldovagaz” undertook to pay for gas for the previous month by the 20th day of each month and make an advance payment for the current month.
However, in the second half of November last year, Gazprom threatened to turn off gas to Moldova due to late payments, the situation repeated itself in January. Against this background, Moldovagaz turned to the government of the republic for help.
At the end of January, Cheban said that Moldovagaz and Gazprom intend to sign a new version of the contract due to the large number of amendments that were made to the current agreement.
