The Moldovan government plans to complete the audit of the debt to the Russian company Gazprom in January and sign an agreement on its repayment. So in a radio interview Vocea Basarabiei On October 4, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu commented on Gazprom’s statement about the violation of contractual obligations by Moldovagaz.
“The audit is in progress. The companies have been selected, the contract has been signed, Moldovagaz has provided the first information. The companies are working, there should be results at the end of January, and we will come to an agreement on the settlement of historical debt,” Spinu said.
The repayment of the fuel debt and timely payments were the key conditions on which Gazprom’s management agreed to extend the contract for gas supplies to Moldova in October last year. The Moldovan government, in turn, undertook to fulfill these conditions by May 1, 2022, but did not do so.
Earlier that day, Gazprom stated that it reserves the right to completely stop gas supplies to Moldova in case of violation of the obligation to pay for blue fuel until October 20. Also, the Russian supplier has the right to terminate the contract due to a gross violation of the terms for concluding the contract on the historical debt of Moldovagaz JSC.
On September 28, Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that Gazprom had not yet confirmed the volumes of gas supplies for October requested by the republic. Sandu added that the actions and desires of the Russian supplier are incomprehensible.
Prime Minister of the Republic Natalia Gavrilitsa said on September 1 that the Moldovan government would continue to compensate citizens for rising gas prices from Russia. The amount of compensation was not specified, but it became known that first of all, households with low and middle income will receive assistance.
