His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, met with His Excellency Josiah Furiki Bainimarama, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the friendly Republic of Fiji, at the headquarters of his country’s pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.
At the outset of the meeting, which was attended by His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Border Security Council, His Highness welcomed the Fiji Prime Minister, expressing his sincere congratulations to His Excellency President Ratu William Katunnifer, on the occasion of his swearing in as President of the Republic of Fiji, wishing him all Good luck and may the Republic of Fiji and its friendly people further progress and prosperity.
During the meeting, which took place during a tour of the Fiji pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, they discussed bilateral relations, ways to develop them and opportunities to push them forward in various development areas of common interest.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said in a tweet on his official account on Twitter: “Today I met the Prime Minister of Fiji and toured the pavilions of Fiji and Italy at the Dubai Expo… Culture in the Italy pavilion… and the environment in the Fiji pavilion… Each pavilion carries A story.. an idea.. and the culture of a people.. and the achievements of a country..every day we learn something new from all over the world.”
For his part, His Excellency Josiah Furiki Bainimarama congratulated the UAE leadership and people on the occasion of its celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the Union, stressing his country’s appreciation for the comprehensive renaissance witnessed by the country in various fields, and Fiji’s keenness to develop constructive relations of cooperation between the two sides.
During the tour of the Fiji pavilion located in the “Opportunities” area, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the Prime Minister of Fiji was briefed on the components of the pavilion, which mainly focus on the issue of climate change and how Fiji has been affected by the shifts in the global climate and the subsequent rise Sea level being an island in the South Pacific Ocean, it showcases through the pavilion its tireless efforts to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050, in all sectors of the economy.
Italy Pavilion
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, accompanied by His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, visited the pavilion of the friendly Republic of Italy, which is located in the Al Forsan area, at Expo 2020 Dubai, bearing the slogan “Beauty unites people”, and natural materials were used in its construction. The environment can be recycled, including 4 million plastic bottles picked from the sea, emphasizing the idea of environmental preservation and sustainability.
His Highness was briefed on the components of the pavilion, which relies on a natural lighting system that reduces the use of electricity, in reference to Italy’s keenness on environmental sustainability. His Highness also viewed the exhibits that reflect Italy through its past and ancient history, which was keen to link it to its future based on innovation and technology through the “Memory Theater” hall, which displays features from the Renaissance in Italy, while the pavilion includes a model of a Vega C space rocket. Which Italy participates in manufacturing in cooperation with the European Space Agency.
